UN International Day of Biological Diversity 

United Nations Environment Programme's Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity based in Montreal, Canada is a multilateral treaty. The Convention has three main goals: the conservation of biological diversity; the sustainable use of its components; and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from genetic resources.

United Nations Goodwill Ambassadors' Campaign -
a global appeal to reverse Nature Loss by 2030
 

To support the milestone conference, United Nations Goodwill Ambassadors worldwide came together to appeal for support towards the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which will aim to reverse nature loss by 2030. 

Good Will Ambassadors who endorsed COP15 among many others are Leonardo Di Caprio, Mark Ruffalo, Antonio Banderas, Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, Dia Mirza, Greta Thunberg, UNEP Regional GWA (Catalina Robayo and LiBingBing), UNESCO Regional GWA (Maya Gabeira) and WWF Regional GWA (Ivan Lalinde and Natalia Reyes).

 

These influencers have a combined potential reach of 100 million+ followers on social media.

The campaign was a massive success across the globe. 

  1. 2.6 Billion reach of the hashtag (#COP15) on Twitter with 372779 original tweets (CBD + Partners). 

  2. 13.5 Billion impressions of the hashtag (#COP15) on Twitter. 

  3. The hashtag #COP15 trended at No.1 Position on Twitter in Canada in the first three days of the conference. 

  4. 3.5 million video views of GWA videos from UNEP Beijing with a potential reach of 1 billion followers. 

An extensive multimedia #COP15 Trello Board was created to support the conference.

In this special episode at the start of COP15 in Montreal in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme, guests Elizabeth Mrema, Executive Secretary, and David Ainsworth, Information Officer, at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity join the Green Finance Institute's Helen Avery. Together they share what we need to see over the 12 days of the Conference including within the Global Biodiversity Framework and its targets, commitments to reduce harmful subsidies, and greater actions to increase financial flows for nature restoration and protection.

Pantone, with its reach of 3.5 million followers, partnered for an exclusive Instagram campaign with UNBiodiversity handle for #COP15. Along with TeaLeaves, assets were designed and curated under the #ColorOfBiodiversity campaign. This campaign led to 1.3 million impressions.
